Review:
Tyler Perry takes on the character Alex Cross and failed miserably. Though he's hardly the only culprit here. The problem starts with the script, which is smaller sad. All the major characters are one dimensional without any progress. Pattersons novel is condensed into a stereotyped and predictable plot, where you can see the coming a mile away. No development of the villain, because he's shown what he was and why a hitman to make the choices he makes. Time really makes no sense in this movie. Events must have occurred over a period of time the book is condensed down to this minute film. I have not seen a movie in a while Ive been told myself You've got to be kidding me several times because the scene is so incredible. Rob Cohens direction is nothing short of terrible. Action scenes so blurry you can not tell who's hitting whom. If no action scenes, the rest of the movie is a talking Heads 70 Made for Television Movie. The flat out stinks acting (with the exception of any brief appearances by Cicely Tyson and Giancarlo Esposito). No chemistry with Perry and Ed Burns and no chemistry between the villain (Matthew Fox) and Perry. The film score sounds a lot like a movie of the week 70. The only retrieving the value I find in this film is the location. There were great uses of buildings in Detroit movie. Otherwise, do not waste your time.
