It seems from many of the comments on this site that some people may have expected too much from a movie like Napoleon Dynamite.This not an art film, friends. His absurd comedy. Do not go see this movie looks deeper meaning or well-constructed plot - vague appearance of a plot is as artificial as they come, and seems set for the most part to give the film structure and allow the audience a happy ending. NO, Napoleon Dynamite is not about changing the world - its direct action South Park (Preston, Idaho, where the film is set, it really has a strong resemblance to the real South Park, CO). It is very ironic, self-mocking, ruthless streak of view jokes and one liners for no apparent purpose other than to laugh at the expense of its main characters, especially the eponymous Napoleon, fit stand-in for everyone whos ever felt socially inept outcast trapped in hell, high school.This film is not for everyone, but if you do not see the flash of your own childhood in various awkwardness and failures protagonists, you're in denial. Dont see Napoleon Dynamite if you are expected sensitivity - go and see it if you're pissed off at the world and just laugh. I saw it for the first time last night, and Im still busting in spontaneous laughter when one of Napoleon's stupid one-liners or a blank-faced dead-pan non-sequitirs comes to mind.
